XC or trail: which geometry suits you
Cross-country and trail are two different mountain bike characters. We show how to tell which geometry fits your riding.
The choice between an XC and a trail bike is not about fashion, but about how and where you ride. Geometry, head angle and travel add up to two different behaviours on the trail.
When XC makes sense
A stiffer, more upright position and less travel reward climbs and fast, smoother trails. If you race marathons against the clock and like descents under control, XC pays you back with lightness.
When trail is better
A slacker head angle and more travel give confidence on technical, rocky descents. The bike is heavier and less rocket-like uphill, but it forgives mistakes and lets you ride harder downhill.
